Gator Soaps--A Lesson In Sustainability

When the University of Florida shut down its biodiesel plant last year, 2 determined students teamed up and formed a handmade soap company—yes a soap company—to continue to promote biodiesel and the concept of sustainability.

Named Gator Glyss, the soap is scented with citrus essential oils that students produce themselves. They scour the university’s eateries for fruit peels then cold-press the oils to extract the precious volatile oils.

The students should be fully licensed to sell their soap commercially sometime in January.
